The Madness Continues

Start the Countdown...

Yikes! 7 months flew by so quickly and what have we done... NOTHING! Well... We tried to salvage the planning process by bringing on a wedding planner and even she is now saying... "How can I help you guys move along..." We must be the slowest client that she has ever had.

The third poll is open! Don't forget to vote below!

This past weekend, we went to another friend's wedding, which was beautiful! and reminded us that we really need to get our behinds moving. Seeing how beautiful and elegant their wedding was, it spurred a debate over how entertaining the reception should be. We have gone to very formal ones to super crazy ones, we're most likely going to have something in between. So the debate is on between Mr. Formal & Serious and Ms. Spunky & Witty...

We need your help and on to the third poll!

Poll
There are so many choices that need to be made in the wedding so there are bound to be a lot of conflicts for making decisions, Sylvia and I are no exception. Instead of compromising, we've decided to solicit your help! Ultimately, the choices are made to make sure the guests are comfortable and enjoy the wedding! This is part 3 of probably 3 polling our friends to help us make the decision! There will be no text messaging option! Heh heh.

Please select a choice!

Question
Should there be Chinese wedding games during the banquet reception? For instance*:
  • Game 1: Groom stands on a chair. Brides moves 1 chilled "raw" egg from one pant leg to the other.
  • Game 2: Spin-off of game 1, phone is replacement for egg. When phone reaches midway, an elder calls the phone to give them blessing and Bride must listen hard to what the elder is saying.
  • Game 3: Pen is affixed to the Groom's waist area and Bride has a white cardboard hung down from her neck. He has the option of writing "love" in chinese or "I love you."
  • Game 4: Bride stands on one end of stage, Groom on other withe a string tied around his waist with an orange hanging down an inch from the ground. Another orange is placed on the ground and he has to "putt" (no hands!) the other orange between the bride's legs to "score".
  • Game 5: Groom hides at one of the guest tables. Bride must find him in a fixed amount of time. Audience does certain hand movements (e.g. napkin waving) to cover-up.
* Note: There is no guarantee that above games will be performed. Guests who bring chilled "raw" eggs to the banquet may or may not improve the chances that the Bride and Groom will do Game 1. Guests who request the orange game to be done with durian fruit are suspect to appropriate consequences.

It's a rite of passage, and you have the burden of cultural history and tradition to uphold. After such embarassment, nothing will faze you anymore afterwards.

game 1 - after moving egg, sylvia should have to cook it, blindfolded, and feed it to james, with bacon & toast

I think as long as you have a great deejay or band your guests will not get bored. If you see people yawning, then bring out the produce! ;)

I like the orange game or hide-and-go-seek. Either one would just take a few minutes, and make your wedding stand out.

Sounds like fun. Maybe you can just pick a couple of the tamer games so that James isn't dreading his wedding day! And hey, the whole garter belt thing can be just as embarrassing and is very common!

definitely some entertainment for the guest, but it's gotta be fun...I thought the egg or phone games were mandatory excercises at any Chinese wedding, so you two have to do more than that...I say cover Sylvia with cholocate sauce (or whatever you can find at the wedding) and have James lick them off...or the other way around. As for James' question "Do you want to do these games for your wedding?!", my answer is no, but hey, this is YOUR wedding, so let's get the show on, hahaha...

In my experience, the relatievs don't really care about the games, they just want the young folks to have fun. So I think the crazier games would be entertaining for the younger ppl while still doing something "chinesy"
